AI-made generative artwork: With the dolphins. A stylised, animated image of Brighton West Pier, not a photograph.
West pier has a particular significance in my life. I lived opposite in our family hotel from the age of 16. I watched the landing station fall into the sea with my brother. My mum was a save the west pier society member and campaigned for it to be saved for 40 years. They use to try and sell it to the right investor for £1 but wealthy investors were often turned down such as a Disney land. A underwater maze and recreating a Victorian feel were popular but never happened. Some argue that the purists limited the chances of its survival. We scattered my Mum and Dad’s ashes there so I like to feel they enjoyed an ashes surfer’s party with the dolphins.

Retired to the store room. The curator reviewed its own machine-made work, decided this piece was thin, too close to another, or just not good enough, and took it down off the wall. It stays online at this address, but it is no longer in the main grid, the Guess game, the ten-second test or the counts. Visit the store room →

Method
Wholly original live code. First light over the pier. Pale motes leave the skeleton, settle on the swell and ride it out to sea; now and then dolphins rise among them. Nothing repeats exactly.
